UC2: Dataset for Prostate Cancer Characterization
Short Description
A dataset focused on classifying prostate cancer based on biological aggressiveness, supporting AI-driven stratification of patients into clinically significant and non-significant disease for informed treatment decisions.
Description
The UC2: Dataset for Prostate Cancer Characterization is designed to support the classification of prostate cancer into clinically significant and non-significant categories based on imaging findings and other diagnostic data. This dataset comprises patient data with suspicious MRI findings, enabling the development of AI models that can assess the biological aggressiveness of prostate tumors. The primary objective of UC2 is to enable accurate stratification of patients into high-risk and low-risk categories. High-risk patients—those with aggressive tumors—are candidates for radical treatments to prevent disease progression and metastasis. In contrast, patients with low-risk, indolent disease can be safely managed through active surveillance, thereby avoiding the unnecessary side effects of invasive treatments. By supporting risk-adaptive management strategies, this dataset plays a crucial role in balancing oncological safety with quality of life. It contributes to personalized care by ensuring that each patient receives the most appropriate intervention based on the aggressiveness of their disease.

Intended purpose
This dataset is intended to facilitate the development of AI models that characterize prostate cancer by its biological aggressiveness. It aims to support clinical decision-making by distinguishing between patients who require immediate radical treatment and those who can be managed conservatively through active surveillance. The ultimate goal is to reduce overtreatment, limit treatment-related morbidity, and preserve quality of life while maintaining effective cancer control.
